RAFA presents Russian Animation at MIPCOM and MIPJUNIOR

The world's largest audiovisual and digital content market MIPCOM will start on the 7th of October in Cannes, France. This annual event will bring together key players of the film and television industry from around the world and will turn every moment into an opportunity, transforming four days of meetings, screenings and conferences into deals – from blockbuster programming to ground-breaking partnerships. For the first time Russia will be represented at MIPCOM with a united stand dedicated to Russian feature films and animation - RU.C - RUSSIAN CINEMA and RUSSIAN ANIMATION - with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The stand is organized by Russian Animation Film Association (RAFA) and EXPOCONTENT company.
The stand RU.C - RUSSIAN CINEMA at MIPCOM will bring together several Russian film production and distribution companies including Russian World Vision, Russian World Studios, Interсineмa Agency, Bazelevs, Reflexion Films, Total Content, Planeta Inform, ANTIPODE Sales & Distribution and Sreda Fetisov Films.
RU.C - RUSSIAN CINEMA will present a line-up of new Russian films produced in 2012-2013 including the most interesting pictures which have potential for international distribution. Among them, the disaster film directed by Anton Megerdichev "Metro", winners of the Open Russian Film Festival "Kinotavr": ”The geographer drunk his globe away” by Alexander Veledinsky, "Intimate parts" by Natalia Merkulova and Alexei Chupov, ethno tale “Celestial wives of the meadow mari” by Alexey Fedorchenko; and based on French play by Philippe Lellouche "Game of Truth" directed by Victor Shamirov – in total RU.C-RUSSIAN CINEMA will present over more than 20 Russian films, including box office leaders, and participants of various international film festivals.
New this MIPCOM will be merger of Russian animation industry with Russian film industry under the brand RU.C. As part of the united stand RU.C - RUSSIAN ANIMATION will present to
international buyers programs and films of more than 15 major Russian animation companies including Soyuzmultfilm Studio, production center RIKI, Masha and the Bear, Master-Film, D3 Media, Airplane, Wizart Animation, Toonbox, M.I.R., KinoAtis, Metronome Films, Age of Aquarius and others.
Vyacheslav Telnov, Head of the Department of Cinematography of the Ministry of Culture considers that Russian animation industry is entering into a period of intense development. “Presence of key players of Russian animation industry on international film markets provides possibility to introduce and expand Russian animation abroad, and this presence and ability to compete on international level itself serves as quality increase factor for the animation produced in our country. Creating the stand RU.C - RUSSIAN ANIMATION is a platform for business meetings and presentations of new projects which will allow to introduce the latest Russian animation to the international professional community, as well as to attract foreign investors to Russian animation industry, this should effect positive influence on the development of Russian animation market", - underlined Vyacheslav Telnov.
Line-up of RU.C - RUSSIAN ANIMATION includes following Russian animated TV series and upcoming projects: Kit and Kate's Imaginarium and Qumi-Qumi (Toonbox Studio); Masha and the Bear and Masha’s Tales (Masha and the Bear production), Kikoriki (RIKI Group), Vezuha! (Lucky!) and Lullabies of the World (Metronome Films), Yoko (Wizart Animation), Fixes and Fixes-singers (Aeroplane Productions), as well as full fesature animated films The Magic Tower (Master-film), Belka and Strelka – Space Dogs (KinoAtis), Gofmaniada (Soyuzmultfilm Studio).
RU.C - RUSSIAN ANIMATION will also present Russian animation at MIPJUNIOR (5 - 6 October) where the children's entertainment industry gets an early start before MIPCOC, where key international buyers, sellers and producers gather to present, discover and screen content at the world's showcase for kids.
Irina Mastusova, Russian Animation Film Association CEO, comments that bright, beautiful and high-quality animated films are being created in Russia and they combine traditions of the Soviet classic school of animation with the latest technology. “Such significant media event as MIPCOM is an ideal platform to present the potential benefits of Russian animation for international distribution. Previously, at MIPCOM and MIPJUNIOR 2012 Russian animation has attracted a lot of interest among the international audience. Through participation in this markets, animation studios signed several major contracts”, - added Irina Mastusova.
Within MIPJUNIOR and MIPCOM conference program RU.C – RUSSIAN ANIMATION together with RAFA will present to its participants a view of Russian Kid’s content landscape and fresh Russian animated programs and projects with international potential:
MIPJUNIOR, SATURDAY 5 OCTOBER, 16:10 - RUSSIAN KIDS CONTENT LANDSCAPE - panel dedicated to Russian market of kid’s content, with the support of the Russian Animation Film Association.
MIPCOM, TUESDAY 8 OCTOBER, 17:30 - FUTURE HITS - screening and presentation of the animated TV series and projects for international distribution and co-production.
