The 7th Big Cartoon Festival this year is held from October 13 to November 11. It lasts for 12 days at 15 different venues. The Big Cartoon Festival is one of the most prominent international animation reviews in Russia. The Festival will gather more than 50 film programs along with meetings, lectures, workshops and art classes of Russian and foreign producers and artists of animation. The Big Cartoon Festival 2013 runs within the support of the Moscow Government and the Mikhail Prokhorov’s Fund.
Traditionally, organizers of the Festival hold the Cartoon Factory, a huge children edutainment playground, that gives children the opportunity to see the process of cartoon production and to take part in it.
The Festival film program is concentrated on two blocks, the Winners and the Premieres. The Winners’ block includes the most acknowledged international films which have already received awards; and the Premieres’ program consists of new Russian animated films.
Two countries, Switzerland and Israel, are in focus of the Festival. There are some blocks of classic animation, some works of young animation directors and lectures of these two countries’ animation presented at the Festival.
In Festivals block, works of the winners of the Open Russian Animation Film in Suzdal will be shown, and also there is the Polish Festival O!PLA presented.
This year BGF plans to widen children’s program. A charity block that is yearly shown in a dozen of Moscow cinema theatres, will be expanded by means of foreign films. Also in the framework of the charity program, a new Japanese feature puppet animation Cheburashka is shown. The children's program is enlarged by two sets of foreign art animations and several animation features, including new Italian Pinocchio.
